It has been 10 years now since the UW students could try to learn a foreign language (English in particular) via the Internet using the university educational Moodle platform maintained by COME UW. The first online classes, designed in cooperation with the Jagiellonian University within the project „Opracowanie programów nauczania do kształcenia na odległość na kierunku studiów wyższych Informatyka – język angielski”, were four 60-hour e-courses dedicated to students of the IT Faculty (realized in the following time consumption: 45 hrs of online work and 15 hrs in a classroom).
Within this decade the online language courses have been constantly and regularly updated, both when it comes to their language content and technical maintenance so as to make them useful, varied and attractive for academic teachers and students. At present, 5000 students enrol in online English language courses available at three levels of advancement: from B1 to C1.
The e-classes of English contain athe same, coherent language content at particular proficiency levels structured in modules are run by over 40 e-teachers of the Centre for Foreign Language Teaching and the Centre for Foreign Language Teacher Trainning and European Education. Following such an impressive number of teachers, we do our best to ensure proper organization of the e-classes and the application of the most appropriate methodology of online ELT. We offer group and individual trainings for e-teachers, and we support their current activities ans students' work via our language helpdesk.
In spring, we are planning to invite you to a big celebration of the 10 years of the online language courses. Just pop in and visit our website to find out about the details of this event.
