On the weekend of 18-19 of June 2016, the Warsaw citizens had a chance to visit the Ochota Campus of the University of Warsaw, located at the crossroads of Banacha and Żwirki i Wigury streets. They were invited to enjoy the night of lectures and a great university picnic. The event was part of the celebration of the 200th Anniversary of UW. On Saturday, our guests took part in the night of lectures - e.g. they could listen to an interesting presentation about the role of science in solving the problem of heavy traffic jams in big cities, about the Quentin Tarantino phenomenon, about the nature of genetic engineering or about the geological structure of the Mazovian disctict (which ended with the feast over a cake!). There were also chemical experiments conducted during the workshops for both kids and adults. The Collegium Musicum choir gave a fantastic perfomance. You could also watch the film "Racing Extinction", warmly received by the audience of the Millennium Docs Against Gravity film festival. There was also a series of involving lectures given at night. On Sunday, the picnic events on the Ochota Campus were dedicated to families. The programme covered a wide range of topics which our University deals with on a daily basis. The UW staff, who are committed to their work, talked about their daily duties with great passion and invited everyone to take part in a number of interesting activities like conducting chemical experiments, observing the explosion of a mini-volcano, meeting the zombie ant, finding out about the icons of America (thanks to the participation of the Harley Davidson motocyclists and Warsaw Eagles, the American football team). The sports zone offered a great time as the guests could try fencing, distance-running and rowing on an ergometer - a rowing machine or an indoor rower, or scooter racing. Throughout the weekend, everyone had an opportunity to record their best wishes, greetings or congratulations for UW in the recording studio set by COME UW. Among those who made the recordings were both the young and elderly people, the UW graduates and student candidates. All of them presented the university with warm, funny and moving wishes. We hope that our University will have a great future and that... nothing escapes from the lab ;) At the time of the picnic, the Ochota Campus visitors had a chance to take part in the scavenger hunt The Campus of Discoverers. The participants' task was to pay a visit to every Faculty stand and carry out a number of activities - from the recognition of seeds to the assmebly of a paper model of a cube. We would like to thank all our guests for celebrating the University's 200th birthday with us. We hope there will be more opportunities to meet in the future! |
